It is so easy to focus on the things of earth rather than the things of eternity. Sisters, let me point our vision upward today with these reminders...
We ought to be looking for Christ's return more than we are looking for a husband's arrival.
We should love His appearing more than we love his appearing.
We ought to be more concerned about preparing for Christ's coming than preparing for a husband's coming.
Does this verse describe you? "...the marriage of the Lamb is come, and His wife hath made herself ready." (Revelation 19:7) If you are a born again Christian, then you are the wife He refers to in this passage. Will it be true of you? Have you made yourself ready for the second coming of Christ?
After the second coming, we Christians will stand before the Judgement Seat of Christ (Romans14:10). Not to be judged on whether we were good enough to get into heaven (the Bible says that none of us are good enough, we must accept the free gift of Christ's payment on the cross in order to be saved!), but to be judged for the works we did after we were saved and to see if we earned any heavenly rewards.
God is going to try our works by fire, to see what sort they are. The things we did for ourselves will burn up like a pile of kindling. But the works we did for the Lord will remain as gold, silver and precious stones (1 Corinthians 10-15).
Will there be any gold or silver left after God tries the works that you did on earth? Are you living for yourself and to bring you pleasure, or for God and to bring Him pleasure? How are you spending your limited time on this earth?
Our life is incredibly short compared to the forever of eternity. We have one chance to give our all for Jesus in this life. This ought to strike a healthy fear into our hearts and stir us to action! How tragic it will be if we were so obsessed with our own wants and pleasures that we let life pass us by and did nothing for the Lord. How awful to have our works tried and find that we did nothing that would count for eternity! Nothing to give back to Him who gave His all for us!
Whenever I'm dissatisfied with my state in life...whether it be singleness, relationship struggles, confusing circumstances, unknowns, waiting periods... it helps me to stop and take a quick mental flight.
10,000 feet up, flying in the sphere called "eternity," I can look out the plane window and down on my short little span of life from beginning to end. It puts it into perspective - my life is short. Eternity is forever. Which one do I want to live for?
Then I mentally land my plane, open my eyes, and purpose in my heart that I will live today above my circumstances. I will live it for Christ. I will live in light of the coming judgement and let that light inform my decisions, priorities and perspective of the moments ahead of me.
Only one life, yes only one,
Now let me say, "Thy will be done;"
And when at last I'll hear the call,
I know I'll say 'twas worth it all;"
Only one life, 'twill soon be past,
Only what's done for Christ will last.
